Dive-site story
The C-56 Juan Escutia, an Admirable-class minesweeper built for the US Navy and later transferred to Mexico, rests upright on a sand plain off Puerto Morelos. Sunk as an artificial reef, its hull has fractured amidships, opening passages into the engine rooms and corridors. Encrusting sponges, gorgonians, and stony corals coat the superstructure, drawing pelagic schools and ambush predators.
