Dive-site story

What makes this site worth diving

Sunk off Marie Pampoen beach in the 1960s as a shoreline breakwater, a pile of 1940s and 1950s vehicles rests along a sloping reef wall. Divers cross a shallow sandy shelf before descending the slope. Rusted chassis, axles, and truck cabs lie between 15 and 35 meters, encrusted with star corals, tube sponges, and gorgonians. Green moray eels coil in hollow engine blocks; frogfish sit motionless on corroded frames.
