U.S. Virgin Islands
South of St. Thomas, Cow Rock is formed by coral-encrusted surge channels, swim-throughs, and arches cut through volcanic rock. Sunlight cuts through overhead clefts onto resting nurse sharks and silversides grouped under ledges. Surrounding spur-and-groove reefs give way to sand flats where southern stingrays and green sea turtles feed.
